Every church faces a pastoral transition from time to time. And every church goes about searching for a new pastor differently. In my experience in consulting with churches, I have found that some churches are better than others in navigating this critical transitional period. For those churches that navigate this season effectively, the church is unified, energized, and strengthened. For those churches that do not effectively navigate this transition time, the church can become weakened and divided.
Due to the unique nature of the pastor search process, I have begun to conduct some research on this topic. I am seeking input regarding best practices as well as opportunities for improvement from a variety of perspectives:
- Those who consult or advise Pastor Search Committees
- Pastors and/or staff members who have interacted with Pastor Search Committees
- Those who have served in the past or are currently serving on a Pastor Search Committee
- Church members who have never served on a Pastor Search Committee
